About Runners Gear Guide

Hi, I’m Tanner — a long-distance runner, gear nerd, and the voice behind Runners Gear Guide.
This site was born out of one too many frustrating runs in the wrong shoes, awkward shorts, or a dead watch battery mid-race. Like a lot of runners, I’ve spent hours researching products and second-guessing what to buy - only to end up with gear that didn’t quite deliver. So I created Runners Gear Guide to fix that.
Here, I combine real-world experience from thousands of training miles with deep research and product comparisons to help fellow runners cut through the noise. Whether you’re training for your first 5K or chasing a marathon PR, my goal is to help you find gear that fits your needs - not just what’s trending.
What You’ll Find Here
-
In-Depth Reviews: I write detailed breakdowns of running shoes, watches, apparel, and accessories - with insights from my own use, plus broader research and feedback from other real runners.
-
Honest, Unbiased Content: I don’t run ads or accept freebies in exchange for reviews. I fund the site through affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you buy something after clicking - at no extra cost to you.
-
Product selection tools: I've personally created some tools that help runners get matched up with gear for them that suites their needs. The tools have you answer a few questions and then generate product matches based on the information you give.
About Me
I'm a software engineer by day and a runner by night (and sometimes mornings). I’ve been running consistently since about 2006, completing races in over 12 states as I work toward my goal of finishing a marathon in all 50. I’ve used dozens of different shoes, packs, and GPS watches over the years - and I’m always searching for the best options for comfort, performance, and durability. You’ll find my perspective as a midpack, high-mileage amateur woven throughout this site.
Thanks for being here - and happy running.
